31.12.2019 A day I will never forget.⁣ Day turned to night, a strong westerly wind pushed the front of the Currowan bushfire right through our beautiful town, only metres away from our home. ⁣ The westerly wind blew like nothing I had ever felt. ⁣ Without warning, burning hot embers were pelted from the sky, landing everywhere and setting fire to everything they came in contact with. I’ve never been so scared in my life. In that moment, the car was packed and we decided it was time to leave. The wind continued to gust and it felt like fire was raining from the sky. ⁣ As we drove out of our street the bush around us burned relentlessly, I’ve never felt anything so hot in my life. Knowing what was behind us, we left. Our only thought was to get to the safely of the beach. ⁣ As we sat on the shore with hundreds of others, the blistering heat turned to freezing cold but soon enough the immediate threat was gone and we were able to stay at the beach for the night, knowing we were safe. ⁣ ⁣ So many people had a far worse experience on this day, but this was our experience which I have decided to share to raise awareness that bushfires are not to be taken lightly. Don’t assume it won’t happen to you. Don’t do what I did, don’t wait until the last minute to leave and always have a plan in place. I hope everyone is safe tonight and please be sure to share this post. Xxx ⁣ ⁣ #australianbushfires #myexperience #australianbushfires2019
